McMillan Promotes Inverclyde As Location for Cultural Event

Stuart McMillan MSP, (SNP) and Member of the Tourism Committee has promoted the cause of Inverclyde to be a location to host any future Gathering event in Scotland.

Mr McMillan was asking questions of Dr Geoff Riddington (Grid Economics (Scotland) Ltd) during the evidence session of the Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee meeting on Wednesday 8th September at the Scottish Parliament.

Mr McMillan said;

" I suggested that, if there is going to be a new gathering event in Scotland in 2014, it could be held somewhere such as Greenock.

"We have the historic Customhouse, from which hundreds of thousands of Scots left to go the new world. This would be an ideal opportunity to promote Inverclyde as a tourist destination and a place to visit. Furthermore the genealogy tourism sector is something that has been increasing in recent years and as such, this may be an opportunity for Inverclyde to fully get in on the act and provide another tourism activity.

"Therefore, I was delighted when Mr Riddington agreed with me that this is an idea worth pursuing and I have already written to the Scottish Government raising this proposal."
