McMillan Voices Support for Inverclyde Libraries
Stuart McMillan MSP, (SNP) has today (Wednesday) voiced his support for libraries in Inverclyde on the back of the recent debate on the BBC Radio Scotland 'Call Kaye' phone-in which discussed the future of libraries.
The debate on Tuesday 31st August asked whether we really need libraries anymore.
Mr McMillan has since obtained statistics, from Inverclyde libraries, which indicate a rise in the issues of library materials and visits to libraries in Inverclyde from 2008/09 to 2009/10.
Mr McMillan said;
"I listened to the debate on the future of libraries in Scotland and felt it was important to highlight the positive role they play in our local communities.
"I know from first hand experience, when I undertake surgeries, that libraries are always a hub of the community and a place for people to learn new skills and relax in a good book.
"The statistics which Inverclyde Libraries have supplied me serve to highlight the increased usage of library services in Inverclyde.
"Therefore, I hope people will continue to support and visit their local library."
