MCMILLAN WELCOMES EURO COURT RULING ON FREE-TO-AIR TV FOOTBALL

SNP MSP Stuart McMillan - a member of the Scottish Parliament's football team - has welcomed the European General Court (EGC) ruling that domestic football fans can continue to watch major events on free-to-air TV in future.

Fifa and Uefa had challenged the decision allowing the UK government to designate the World Cup and European Championships as free-to-watch events.

Commenting Mr McMillan said:

"I welcome the decision from the European General Court that competitive international games such as the World Cup are to remain free-to-air.

"I hope this ruling will persuade the UK Government to act sooner rather than later on deciding what sports will and will not be included in the Crown Jewels list.

"I believe they have an obligations to Scottish sports fans to invest in showing at least the highlights of Scotland football games on free-to-air television."
