McMillan Comments on Potential CMU Closure

Stuart McMillan MSP SNP has today (Thursday) made his views known about the potential closure of the Community Maternity Unit (CMU) at Inverclyde Royal Hospital (IRH).

Mr McMillan said;

"I am disappointed that the Health Board wants to close the CMU at the IRH and will fight once again to keep the service at the IRH.

"Clearly there has been a reduction in the number of births last year, but instead of the short term answer of cutting the service, the Health Board should be asking what more it can do to encourage births to take place.

"I accept that this time 4 years ago the health board wanted to close the CMU down and that a concerted campaign was initiated to keep it open. I am sure that the people of Inverclyde will once again rally round keeping this service.

"I view the CMU at the IRH as an important cog in the future of the IRH and I will not accept that closure is inevitable or desired.
"I encourage everyone locally to make their views known to the Health Board that this closure is not acceptable."
