The ‘Gie’s Peace’ project, being run by Inverclyde Community Development Trust with Scottish Government funding, aims to bring together a range of individual volunteers and organisations from across the Inverclyde community to work in partnership to begin tackling sectarianism together.
Also in attendance was the Minister for Community Safety, Roseanna Cunningham MSP, who had the opportunity to meet the volunteers involved with making the dvd and also started in the production.
“I was delighted to welcome Inverclyde Community Development Trust to the Scottish Parliament and for them to showcase their dvd on tackling the issue of sectarianism.
“Sectarianism is utterly unacceptable in modern Scottish society and projects such as ‘Gie’s Peace’ are important in highlighting the wrongs of spouting religious hatred.
“I know the Scottish Government is fully committed to tackling the issue of sectarianism and this was further demonstrated by the Minister for Community Safety attending the event, in Parliament, today.
“I wish everyone involved in the ‘Gie’s Peace’ project the very best for the future.”
Laura Mathieson, Community Development Worker also added;
“Trust Volunteering’s ‘Gie’s Peace’ Project staff and volunteers would like to thank Mr McMillan MSP and his staff for making today possible.
“We have been so fortunate to secure funding from the Community Safety Unit of The Scottish Government, this allows us to continue delivery of Anti-Sectarian initiatives throughout Inverclyde until March 2015.
“I would like to say a huge thank you and well done to all of our fantastic volunteers for their time and effort. They are the project and without them ‘Gie’s Peace’ would have no impact.”
