Stuart McMillan MSP (SNP) has today (Tuesday) highlighted how fewer people in Inverclyde are becoming homeless according to official statistics published by Scotland’s Chief Statistician.
Scottish councils received around 9,100 applications for homelessness assistance during July to September 2014, three per cent lower than in the same period in 2013. In Inverclyde, the number of applications fell from 90 in July-Sept 2013 to 74 for the same period in 2014.
Mr McMillan said;
“The latest figures highlighting a decline in Inverclyde homeless applications is a step in the right direction. However, we cannot be complacent and must ensure continued action is taking to support those in need.
“As the Housing Minister indicated, the Scottish Government is investing over £1.7 billion to deliver 30,000 affordable homes during the lifetime of this Parliament.
“The decline in homeless applications in Inverclyde and across Scotland as a whole is testament to the action being taken by this Scottish Government, despite the unprecedented cuts to our budget from Westminster and a rise of in-work poverty as a result of Westminster’s unfair welfare reforms.”
