Stuart McMillan MSP, (SNP West of Scotland) has today criticised Post Office closures of the Inverclyde branches at Brougham Street, Glasgow Road, Midton and Rankin Park. The news follows a six-week local public consultation which ended on 1st September 2008.Mr McMillan said;
" I am extremely disappointed to hear the decision that the Post Office has taken to close the four branches in Inverclyde.
" The loss of these Post Offices will put undue pressure on other local businesses and services and will create service access difficulties and unnecessary extra expense for many residents.
" I have been contacted by many constituents who were angry at the proposals and felt this would have a severely detrimental effect on their local community. Alongside this, many elderly constituents have contacted me to raise concerns that they will struggle to pay their bills as the nearest Post Office is too far for them to travel to.
" It seems the Post Office has not listened to the concerns the public have raised and have pushed on with the closures regardless. This is no way to treat loyal customers."
