Stuart McMillan MSP (SNP, West Scotland) has today (Thursday) written to the Chief Executive of West Dunbartonshire Council in relation to the termination of contracts by First Group of school bus attendants throughout the local authority area.
Mr McMillan received the news, by letter from a constituent, that First Group will no longer operate school contracts from Dumbarton depot which require School Bus Attendant. This means a number of employees will have their employment with First terminated on 28th June 2013.
Mr McMillan said:
“I have been contacted by a constituent who has informed me they have received a letter from First Group indicating their employment has been terminated on the last day of this school term.
“The announcement appears to have come on the back of changes to the timing of buses and what this has meant for the contract between the local authority and First Group.
“Ultimately, it has meant a number of employees have lost their jobs with, it appears, very little notice and consultation occurring.
“Therefore, I have written to the Chief Executive of West Dunbartonshire Council asking a number of questions in relation to the contract with First Group, the changes to the timing of buses, what consultation has been undertaken and whether School Bus Attendants can transfer employment to any new contractor.”
