McMillan meets Local Businessman to hear Concerns over Inverclyde Fuel Prices

Stuart McMillan MSP (SNP- West Scotland) on Friday (29th November) met with businessman John Keogh to hear his concerns over the prices of fuel in Inverclyde.

John Keogh of Inverclyde Telecom has previously raised the issue of the increased cost of filling up in Inverclyde with various politicians, including Mr McMillan. At the meeting Mr McMillan and Mr Keogh discussed what effects higher fuel prices in Inverclyde may be having on Inverclyde based businesses.

Last month Mr McMillan launched a fuel consultation to asks residents for their views on the cost of petrol and diesel in Inverclyde, while also asking for information on where residents regularly buy fuel. Survey letters were distributed to over 10,000 residents across Inverclyde and responses are still being received.

So far from the responses received, 28% of drivers in Inverclyde regularly buy their fuel from out with the area.

Full results will be announced once all responses have been received.

Stuart McMillan said:

“It is evidently clear that people in Inverclyde are paying more at the pumps as compared to neighbouring areas.

“However, what is now also becoming apparent is that a large number of Inverclyde’s motorists are now filling up out with Inverclyde which can have a detrimental effect on the Inverclyde economy and jobs.

“The possible impact of this, and of the higher prices in general, on Inverclyde businesses is something that concerns me.”
