Stuart McMillan MSP, (SNP West of Scotland) has today welcomed the news from the Scottish Government that they have included increased rail capacity for Gourock in the recently launched Strategic Transport Project Review. The increased rail capacity will reduce journey times between Inverclyde, Ayrshire and Glasgow at an estimated cost of £250-£500 million.
Mr McMillan said;
"I am pleased to hear the announcement in the Strategic Transport Project Review that Gourock is to receive increased rail capacity which will in-turn reduce journey waiting times.
"The funding is an important step in providing better links for Gourock with Ayrshire and Glasgow.
"Having 4 trains operating per hour between Glasgow and Gourock will help allow commuters make their work appointments and other such things which are time constrained."

McMillan Welcomes Gourock 150th Anniversary as a Burgh
Stuart McMillan MSP, (SNP West of Scotland) has welcomed the 150th Anniversary of Gourock becoming a Burgh and acknowledges the exciting events planned to celebrate such a milestone.
Mr McMillan said;

" This is a historic milestone for Gourock and its residents and I'm sure they will enjoy the events and exhibitions planned to mark this occasion.
" The bus tour through Gourock will be an excellent opportunity for people to witness first hand the towns history and heritage. Alongside this, the events planned for school children, such as sport activities, is great way of engaging our young people in such a historic occasion and also make it fun for them.
" I'm sure all those organisation involved in setting up the events will do Gourock proud".
Notes:
On 8th May 1858, Gourock was given the status of being a Burgh as part of the Burgh Reform Act. This entitled the Burgh of Gourock to have a Police Force, Magistrates and its own elected representatives.
In recognition of this anniversary a number of events will be held over the next 12 months to publicise and celebrate this important milestone.

S3M-02570 Stuart McMillan (West of Scotland) (SNP): That the Parliament welcomes the 150th anniversary of Gourock in Inverclyde becoming a burgh; notes this historic occasion is being marked by a series of events organised by Inverclyde Council and Gourock Community Council, and further notes that Inverclyde Tourist Group, the Royal Gourock Yacht Club and Gourock Community Council will host a £4 bus tour giving an insight into the town’s history and heritage, that alongside this there will be inter-school activities including sports events and that, in November 2008, there will be an art exhibition of the work of Inverclyde schoolchildren to mark the 100th anniversary of the opening of Gourock Outdoor Swimming Pool.
