Stuart McMillan MSP, (SNP West of Scotland) has welcomed the first projects to benefit from the Scottish Government’s £1 million Social Entrepreneurs Fund.
The new fund was launched to get new social enterprises off the ground, enabling them to help get people into work and keep Scotland's economy moving.
Among the first projects to benefit is Street Soccer, an initiative that will operate throughout Scotland, using local football initiatives in engaging and supporting homeless people.
Mr. McMillan said;
"This is fantastic initiative for Inverclyde to get involved in and I hope groups such as the street football initiative, co-ordinated by development officer, Stuart McCabe, try to get access to this fund.
"Social enterprises have the ability to connect with some of the most vulnerable people in society whilst helping to create valuable employment opportunities.
"That is a great ethos to be taking forward on projects such as the Street Football and I hope the success of this continues and encourages other social enterprises to apply for funding through the scheme.
"If anyone in Inverclyde has a business idea with a clear social benefit they can apply for funding through the Social Entrepreneurs Fund.
"Awards can vary from £500 to £20,000 so there is scope for many different kinds of enterprise here.
"Inverclyde has what it takes to provide people here with the opportunities they deserve through social enterprises and I hope many benefit from this fund".
